ℹ️ - Marvel's Spider-Man 2
With the Collector's Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 going on sale today via official PlayStation Direct online store, it's all eyes on that 19" statue of Peter & Miles fighting Venom, but of course that's not all you get. Amongst the digital items that are included in both the Digital Deluxe and Collector's Editions, there are ten exclusive suits (5 for Peter and 5 for Miles), a couple of in-game skill points, and some additional content for the game's photo mode.
- SPIDER-MAN 2 // SPECIAL EDITIONS -
Yes, that does effectively mean that the Spider-Man 2 photo mode has been confirmed and although you might be thinking that it was pretty much a certainty anyway, especially with Insomniac clearly having invested a lot of time and effort in their previous photo modes and already take 8 gongs at The Virtual Photography Awards already, nothing like that can ever be taken for granted.
Even when games are highly likely to be getting a photo mode, there can sometimes be no telling if that will be at launch or via a patch at a later date – take God of War Ragnarök for example.
- SPIDER-MAN 2 // WINGSUIT -
With this news though, it seems quite safe to assume that Insomniac's prized photography tools – maybe even with some upgrades – will be present and correct when the game launches on October 20th. After all, it wouldn't be much of a pre-launch purchase incentive otherwise, would it?
For anyone wondering what the prospect of some photo mode content being locked behind special editions of the game means for virtual photography in general, I would say don't worry. This is hardly the first time this has been seen, and for Spider-Man 2, the content includes some additional frames and stickers. So basically, nothing that will affect the main functionality of the photo mode for owners of different versions of the game.
- SPIDER-MAN 2 // KRAVEN -
Realistically, it is no different to certain costumes and cosmetic items being included in special editions. That is a very common practice and actually those are things that are just as useful to virtual photographers, if not more so than frames and stickers.
